Newsletter – Summer 2018

WELCOME TO SUMMER AT THE KITCHI GAMMI CLUB

Thank you to all who attended our recent Town Hall Meeting. It is important that we keep you as members informed as to what is happening at your Club not only from an event prospective, but also from a financial perspective. We will continue to hold Town Hall Meetings on at least a quarterly basis.

As John Lawien, our treasurer, discussed at the Town Hall Meeting; due to an increase of over $78,000 in this year’s real estate taxes, our cash flow has been negatively impacted. The Club has filed a tax petition challenging this increase and we are confident that we will have a positive end result.

We have stabilized membership and are adding new members each month, and the Love Your Club promotion continues through all of 2018. Our recent open house was a great success resulting in a number of new members.

I encourage you to look at all the events that are going on and attend as many as you can. The dining and service at the Club are prepared for a summer on Lake Superior, with events, music, and specials. Enjoy the Terrace or one

of our other dining options. The Zenith City Sharps will be playing on the Terrace on Wednesdays throughout the summer and of course our Grandma’s Marathon Viewing Party is ready for you to cheer on your favorite runner. Lobster Fest is also coming soon, book early to ensure availability, and the popular Sunday brunch is back with the first date on Father’s Day, June 17th.

Management and staff look forward to seeing you this summer at the Club. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me.

Yours very truly,

WELCOME
BACK
SARAH HARTLEY!

Hello everyone! It is so great to rejoin the Kitchi Gammi Club team as Event Manager. I am very much looking forward to helping plan all of your special occasions, business meetings and events. We have a lot of great parties and events planned for the summer. Let’s make some memories at the Kitchi Gammi Club!

MESSAGE FROM YOUR MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

The membership committee has been working hard to try and recruit new prospects and guide them through the membership application process. As beneficial as new members are, utilization of the Club from current members is as important, if not more important, to help sustain the future of our Club. The hard truth is that 40% of membership has not utilized the Club in the last three months. As members, it is a privilege to have our ‘home away from home’ for breakfast, lunch, dinner, socials, meetings, and celebrations. We have exclusive access to complimentary meeting spaces, clean linens, guest suites, a Lake Superior Terrace, professional event planning, live music, cozy fireplaces and unparalleled service. The Club offers amenities and services that would cost you in other Duluth establishments. To continue the legacy of the Kitchi Gammi Club, consider the Club for your entertaining needs whether it be business, or pleasure.

The Love Your Club initiative that began in February continues. The drive to refer prospective members to the committee will continue throughout the remainder of 2018. Small tokens of appreciation will be provided for every 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20 names given as potential members. Contact Katy at membership@kitchigammiclub.com or (218) 724-8589 to help grow our Club with your referrals.

Kind Regards,
Kitchi Gammi Club Membership Committee

A MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

Wow! This is an exciting time to be a member of the Kitchi Gammi Club. The first 90 days at the club have been a whirlwind of activity and hard work. The team and I are working hard on membership, operations and cost saving initiatives. There are many new things at the club and I encourage you to show off your club to associates, family and friends. Mother’s Day was truly amazing; we hosted over 220 members and guests and provided special flower arrangements for the Mom’s. We had a very well attended Town Hall also in May which updated the membership on where we are as a club and what things we are

moving on, like Brunch on the Terrace and Lobster fest. I encourage you to use your club. All of the woes that we have are related to usage and retention. Please let us know if there are friends or associates that may be interested in membership, the Love your Club drive continues throughout 2018.

I have met many of you, and I continue to meet new people every day. Your feedback and input is necessary to improve the club and I encourage you to let me know how we are doing. I love this club and I know that all of you do too. The terrace is open, see you soon.

THE KITCHI GAMMI CLUB FOUNDATION

I attended my first Foundation meeting on May 8, and was overwhelmed by the pride and honor associated with the Kitchi Gammi Club Foundation. Our Club, is blessed to have this organization support us.

The foundation works very hard to fund capital improvements for the club. They maintain the structure itself and its historic presence. This year the Foundation has funded; new windows for the attic for $22,000 which will allow us to regulate the temperature in the building and help us keep it warm in the winter.

They have also funded a retaining wall; that was crumbling for $9,400 that was a liability as well as being unattractive. Over the years they have replaced sections of the roof and tuck pointed the building.

Without the Foundation, the Club would have to find a way to fund all these projects, please remember to Thank the Foundation members when you see them and please give to the Foundation as you are able.

In appreciation,
Leanne Joynes
